Egret Jewellery | What are wrap bracelets and how do we wear them?

The bracelet has been a part of our daily jewellery obsession for a long time now. Wearing them for decoration is thought to have started as far back as 7,000 years ago but we’ve come a long way since people first started decorating their arms with pieces of bone and wood. The wrap bracelet is an earthy pairing of natural stones and leather that organically twist around the wrist. They have been strolling down our runways for years now, it seems that there is no end in sight for them and it’s not hard to tell why. From their diversity in styles, colours, shapes and even stones, the wrap bracelet is here to stay and I for one am really happy about that.

So, what are wrap bracelets? Wrap bracelets are essentially a long bracelet that can wrap around your arm more than once. They tend to be made from leather or cord and usually come with multiple beads. They give a layered stackable effect all in one bracelet without even breaking a sweat, which is right on trend at the moment.

They can be dressed up or down, glitzy or earthy; whatever the outfit you want to wear there is a perfect wrap for you. They come with an array of different beads, freshwater pearls to give your Friday night town cocktail dress that, “I’m an earthy girl,” look, or with natural semi-precious stones for that, “I just rolled out of bed and accidentally looked like this,” jeans and a T-shirt look. They have been popping up in our stores for a quite a while now and I just cannot get enough of them. They are beautiful, stylish and give us a back to nature, bohemian vibe and who doesn’t want that, right?

Shift your outfit up a gear by wearing a few different wrap bracelets together on your wrist or pairing them with a beaded friendship bracelet. Try mixing different materials, sizes and shapes, have fun with them as that is what they were made for. They can constantly evolve with you as you change your style or mood. Wraps are the perfect way to show off your distinctive look, whether your thing is seed beads, natural gemstones or steel, there is a perfect wrap for you.

The wrap bracelet can also be a fabulous present. I have given many a bracelet as a gift to friends and family. The best thing about them is they can be tailor-made to suit the recipient; favourite colours for example. Natural gemstone wraps are wonderful for a special someone. Each natural gemstone comes with its own unique healing properties that you can exactly match for whatever perfectly suit their needs. Try adding a card explaining the healing properties.

Natural gemstone jewellery can have wonderful effects and be stunningly beautiful. For example; The wrap bracelet I am wearing right now is made from Howlite, Turquoise & Onyx.

Howlite is predominantly a calming stone. It will aid in sleeping, calming the overactive mind. Turquoise promotes self-realisation and assists creative problem solving. Onyx is great at soothing the stress of everyday life because it works to bring harmony to the work-life balance with its grounding effects that make you feel safe and anchors you to the earth.

Do a little research on the perfect gemstone wrap for a gift with an extra personal touch.

So how do you wear them? Well try to focus on just the wrist. Since the wrap bracelet can be overstated its better to keep chunky statement necklaces at bay. Try pairing a wrap with a simple delicate chain necklace and a pair of stud earrings, keep the focus where it's meant to be.

Contrast the bracelet with what you are wearing. If you are wearing a garish outfit, try a nude tone muted wrap bracelet. If you are wearing something that is subtle try pairing it with a steel multi-coloured bracelet to add an extra bit of sparkle.

Most of all don’t forget to mix it up, wrap bracelets are there to have fun & experiment with.

Happy hunting :)
